Volunteers of America opened a 62 bed family shelter in October. An outdoor playground would give children a safe area to play, get fresh air and just be a kid! You can help them by going to the page below and click on Vote! Thanks!
Family Shelter Playground(Sacramento, Ca)
For Woodland, the day starts out early. Waking up early getting ready for a little 5k/10k, Run/walk where 10 dollar donation gets you a special t-shirt of the 4th of July. Run/Walk starts about 8am.
Next, you head out to the Springlake Fire Department where $3.00 gets you in and a plate of pancakes, sausage and drinks. This is a very popular part of the celebration of 4th of July. The food is served by the Woodland Fire Department. They also offer several tours of the station and lots of fire trucks open to the public where you or kids can climb in and see up close.
After you are full of pancakes and got your tour, it’s time to head off to the Stars & Stripes Bike Parade. It starts on Main and Second St. Where the Historic Woodland Opera House is located. That is where the decorating of the bikes are done. The parade starts around 10:45am and travels just a short distance to the Freeman Park, located just a few blocks down the street. They have a contest for Best in show, Cutest and Most Outrageous design and prizes are awarded in those categories.
Now that you have spent about 1 1/2 hours decorating the bike and participating in the parade, it is time for food, again! That’s what the day is all about. By now, It’s about 11am and you are at Freeman Park where you can just chill out and listen to the Live music, have something to drink or eat. They have a barbecue and other things to do.
The day has just began and already you are probably feeling tired. What about some Ice Cream? From around 1pm to 3pm at the Woodland Community & Senior Center on East St., they offer Ice cream to anyone for just a small $2.00 fee. Ice cream is donated from Cold Stone Creamery in Woodland.
Also going on at the same time, Swim-Fest taking place at the Charles Brooks Community Swim Center on N. West St. They have a giant water slide, Swimming(duh!) and More Music. What a way to work off all that food you’ve been eating all morning! Price to get in is $2.50.
Now that you have had several meals, listen to music, ate ice cream and went swimming to work it all off, it’s time to head over to the Pre-Show Activities located on Beamer St., at the WHS Stadium. After all, That IS where the fireworks are going to be at. They have all kinds of activities for people of all ages. It starts around 6pm and lasts until fireworks get ready to start. What more can you ask for but some more music, bounce houses, rock climbing walls, and other things. They also serve drinks and have barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs. It’s free to get in but the food costs. Hey you got to give a little to get a little. It all goes towards next years activities for the 4th.
Now that the entire day has been spent outside, why not spend another 1/2 hour watching what you really wanted to see all day long. Time for fireworks! Starting at 9:30pm a short announcement from the mayor, “skip” Davies and Star Spangled Banner sung by Ericka Davis. What you have been waiting for all day and all year for:
4th of July Fireworks Show @ Woodland High School-Woodland, Ca
*This is not the entire show. Some small sections have been cut out for length. this is a 7 part video, all parts should play automatically once the play button has been pressed the first time. You may click on the full screen button to view it at full screen. Hope you enjoy it. My hand was getting tired in the middle of recording it so it’s not the most perfect job but, it is good enough. I was using one hand for the video camera and the other hand to record this video on a digital camera so some shots are a little off screen. They were shooting the fireworks off all over the place so it is hard to guess where the next few were going to burst at.
One Month Later…
Jul 7
Ok so it has been a month since I have last posted. It wasn’t because I didn’t have anything to blog about, because I did. I just got lazy to do it for a while. I will try to keep up and post often. Next Post is the 4th of July Fireworks at WHS, Woodland, California.
So what has happen this last month. Well Not really much but some things did happen. I just don’t want to talk about everything. I will say, I am having a problem with some nasty hair-like algae in my planted tank. Will discuss more of that on a different post. I will also have to include pictures. We rented 10 movies from Redbox yesterday. All for free. Thanks Redbox! I also got two movies today, PUSH and KNOWING. Can’t wait to see those movies. Been waiting for them for a long time now.
The last month I have been having a bad problem with a virus on my computer. It just didn’t want to go away. I tried a lot of different programs to try to get rid of it. Including scanning for other viruses and spyware but it was stuck on the XP drive like glue. I eventually just decided that I should stop wasting time and just reinstall Windows XP. So I did that the other day and now everything is new again. I just lost my boot screen, now when I boot up, I can’t get into Vista on Drive D. I had XP on drive C and that was the hard drive that had the virus and was just causing me a lot of pain. I have to figure out how to get it back so when I turn on the computer or reboot it, it will give me the choice to go into XP or Vista. This problem with that virus came just about two days after I got a problem fixed by contacting Microsoft Support and doing email support. I had a problem with Windows Update and a program called BITs that windows uses to update Windows Update. That was a pain to deal with also. The email support lasted about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I thought it was never going to end. It is just a shame that I ended up having to reinstall Windows XP after all.
Ok that’s all to post!
